A Chinese car company that began sales in the UK in 2023 has reportedly seen a 69 percent rise in interest following the launch of the UEFA Euros 2024.

The popular automotive platform AutoTrader has reported that one Chinese car brand has seen a spike in interest from football fans since the start of the UEFA Euros 2024.

BYD, the largest producer of electric cars in China, is a major sponsor of the Europe-wide football event, which takes place across June and July 2024.

Erin Baker, Editorial Director at AutoTrader, noted that the publicity has helped the brand significantly, just one year after they launched in the UK.

She explained: "Our traffic data shows that this tournament is already triggering a step-change in awareness of BYD little more than a year after they entered the UK market.

"This high-profile media partnership only underlines their ambitions in Europe, where they face tough competition from the well-established legacy brands. BYD's sales are growing rapidly, albeit from a low base, and the Euros partnership has the potential to cement them in the public consciousness."

Since launching in the UK market in March 2023, BYD have sold nearly 3,400 cars, with sales rising as they increase their dealership network and brand awareness.

To help boost interest, BYD's sponsorship of the UEFA Euros 2024 means more than 10 million football fans saw advertising for the Chinese brand at the side of the pitch and commercials around the game.

AutoTrader highlighted that this has already led to an increase in interest for the brand, with 26,000 views for BYD cars on their website recorded during the first weekend of the game, a 69 percent rise.

According to AutoTrader, the most searched-for model from the company on their website is the BYD Seal, which was the second-most-viewed electric car that weekend.

With a starting price of £45,695, the BYD Seal rivals the Tesla Model 3, with its incredibly sleek styling and high levels of standard equipment.

It is also a practical family model, with the entry-level rear-wheel drive models capable of covering 354 miles per charge from its substantial 82.5kWh battery.

For motorists looking for a more affordable way to switch to an electric car, BYD also offers the Dolphin, a five-door hatchback that is priced from £30,195.

Rivalling western models such as the Volkswagen ID3 and Peugeot e-208, the Dolphin boasts impressive levels of standard equipment, including 360 degree parking cameras, a voice control system and heated front seats.

BYD is also set to launch the even smaller Seagull to the UK market in 2025, which currently sells in China for the equivalent of £7,750.
