Motorists told to check ‘key components’ with ‘blistering heat’ set to cause damage
Drivers have been urged to keep an eye on a range of key car fluids this summer with soaring temperatures likely to cause issues.
Motorists have been warned that “blistering heat” can affect fluid levels inside petrol and diesel vehicle's with coolant, engine oil and brakes all affected.
Drivers may know the importance of coolant over the summer months with the solution absorbing engine warmth and stopping vehicles from overheating.
However, other fluids are just as important and could cause issues if they are not regularly checked and maintained in warm weather.
Andrew Jervis, CEO of leading online mechanic marketplace, ClickMechanic said it was “vital” road users checked some key solutions before setting off this June.
The latest warning comes as the country basks in a mini-heatwave with temperatures soaring across the UK over the last week.
Mr Jervis said: “Blistering heat can affect many of the vehicle’s key components such as the engine, the tyres and the battery.
“Before setting off on your journey, it’s vital to check fluid levels to make sure the vehicle has all it needs. The big one here is coolant, but don’t forget about the others such as engine oil and brake fluid.”
However, motorists don’t need to get their hands messy to check fluids with no tools required for a simple look.
Most fluids can be checked in seconds by looking at the see-through reservoir or by checking the built-in dipstick.

Paul Daly, Director of InsureDaily.co.uk commented: “Aside from coolant, ensure other fluid levels such as brake fluid, engine oil, power steering fluid, and windscreen washer are topped up.
“Long journeys and hot conditions can put extra strain on the vehicle, making the levels of these fluids drop more quickly.”
Specialists have pointed out the importance of having a look at motoring fluids as often as possible.
However, some fluids must be studied more often with some even having to be monitored at least once every month.
Experts at Vertu Motors explained: “Different fluids should be checked at different intervals. While windshield washer fluid should be checked once a month, brake fluid only needs to be checked every two to three months.
“This means manually checking the fluid line instead of relying on the dashboard indicators. Regular checks ensure you won’t be caught out when you least expect it.”
