A top motoring expert has agreed with Wheeler Dealer host Mike Brewer with motorists potentially at risk of being scammed.

Last week, Mike warned vehicles which appear “too good to be true” often are as he urged buyers to take precautions before parting with their money.

The host of the classic car TV series admitted tell-tale signs like cars sold thousands of pounds lower than their traditional asking price could be a warning sign.

Sally Foote, Chief Commercial Officer at Carwow has also warned drivers are at risk with “low prices” a major giveaway.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Sally said: “If a car seems too good to be true, it probably is. Scammers will often tempt victims with a desirable car at a very low price, so search for other examples first to get an idea of what that car usually sells for.”

Mike issued his warning after the TV host was caught out by a con last month.

An individual purchased a Volkswagen Golf GTD using fake details and stolen card information despite Mike’s team running detailed checks.

Mike has since pledged to stop remote sales from his One Automotive base and has called for the introduction of more stringent ID checks.

But, he also called for motorists to look after themselves better by not falling for blatant cons.

He explained: “If you see a car advertised on Facebook Marketplace or another unscrupulous site that looks too good to be true. The chances are it is.”

Mike added: "That £10,500 car was advertised for just £7,500. No wonder it sold really quickly. As I say, if it looks too good to be true then it probably is.”

However, Sally claimed buying a car through a reputable dealer like Carwow may help drivers from being caught out.

This is because of a “transparent pricing system” ensuring drivers are only told the real amount before agreeing to a sale.

She told Express.co.uk: “We work with trusted dealerships in your area to find the best offers, ensuring that you get a fair deal.

“Our system eliminates any hidden costs so you can easily see how much each dealer is offering for a particular model and compare prices side by side.”
