Preserving food is something that we are all trying to do thanks to rising shopping bills.
Spinach: Various health benefits explained by farmer
Food from the supermarket doesn't always stay fresh, even if we store it correctly.
But one person on the online forum site Reddit has shared their hack on keeping spinach fresh for longer.
The post started: "Finally figured out how to extend the life of my fresh spinach to avoid waste and enjoy it longer!
"Transferring to a zip lock bag after purchase and inserting a folded paper towel reduces the moisture that collects in the original bag. Still fresh weeks later instead of spoiling within a week!"
People took to the post to share their suggestions for keeping the veg for as long as possible with one person writing: "I bought a huge tub of fresh spinach from Costco and divided them into several smaller bags. I put a few dated bags in the fridge and it's just like I bought it yesterday.

"I also put a couple of bags in the freezer without paper towels to use in soups and pasta dishes. Really stretched the value of this purchase and reduced my usual waste so I'm pretty happy."
Another suggested: "I stopped buying spinach because of how quickly it went bad. Even put the paper towel in the bag and rubberband it. But never thought of transferring to Ziplocks!"
A third said: "I do this with all my veggies. Twice a month I buy veggies, which usually includes lettuce or spinach, parsley, carrots, cucumbers, broccoli, whatever. I wash everything, cut it or tear it (lettuce), put it through the salad spinner if I can to dry it, and additionally pat with paper towel.

"I put paper towel in the bottom of ziploc bags, except for the especially wet veggies like [cucumbers], which just won't last as long.
"Squeeze the air out of the bags, close, and this stuff will last for weeks. I dip into for salads, stir fry, whatever."
Another said: "I actually put mine in tupperware and it lasts weeks! Never thought to put a paper towel on there though!"
One user suggested: "I’ve stored it in Tupperware between layers of paper towel. I changed them out if they got too damp."
Finally, another said: "Not op but I do the same and I change the paper towel every other day then compress the bag to get the air out. My spinach lasts weeks."
