POLL: Greggs outranks McDonald's as most popular fast-food chain - what's your favourite?
A new poll has crowned Greggs as the most popular fast food chain in the UK, beating worldwide giant, McDonald's.
Fast food restaurants are easy to find in the UK with global brands like McDonald's, Domino's, and KFC commonplace on British high streets.
New data from a YouGov poll has revealed a surprising trend among Britons who have voted for Greggs the most popular dining brand.
The bakery chain, which is famed for its signature sausage rolls, beat McDonald's, Subway, Domino's and Nandos in the ranking.
Greggs also earned a 'fame' score of 99 percent, meaning all but one percent of those surveyed had heard of the brand.
The golden arches of McDonald's failed to take second place, with British pub chain JD Wetherspoon slotting in instead.
The popular boozer came second to Greggs, with 59 percent of people having a positive opinion of it and a 94 percent fame rating.
YouGov data for the first quarter of 2024 revealed that Burger King was the third "most popular dining brand" with Costa Coffee in a close fourth.
In fifth place was Pizza Hut which achieved a 100 percent 'fame' rating, along with McDonald's which placed sixth in the ranking.
The Kentucky fried chicken joint, KFC, placed seventh but also achieved a 100 percent fame rating as a well-known brand across the globe.

Most popular dining brands in the UK
- Greggs - 79 percent popularity
- JD Wetherspoon - 59 percent popularity
- Burger King - 58 percent popularity
- Costa Coffee - 57 percent popularity
- Pizza Hut - 57 percent popularity
- McDonald's - 56 percent popularity
- KFC - 56 percent popularity
- Subway - 55 percent popularity
- Pizza Express - 54 percent
- Domino's - 53 percent
Favourite brands did vary by age group, with Millenials ranking Greggs first followed by Pizza Express then Pizza Hut in third place. Those in the 1981 to 1996 age bracket put doughnut brand Krispy Kreme in fourth with Millie's Cookies in fifth and McDonald's in sixth again.
Generation X, born between 1965 and 1980 put Greggs in the top spot, followed in order by Burger King, Pizza Hut, McDonald's and Wetherspoons in fifth place.
Baby Boomers (1946 to 1964) also favoured Greggs, followed by Wetherspoons, Harvester, Harry Ramsden's and Costa Coffee.
