Arsenal footballer Lia Wälti has teamed up with chef and podcaster Alfie Steiner, known on Instagram as @alfiecooks_ to create the perfect match-day burger - but there is a twist.

The duo have used the newly launched Beyond Burger Jalapeño patty, which promises to be a juicy, tender plant-based burger with a slow-burning spicy kick, to create a burger suitable for any football fan to enjoy, whether they’re vegan, vegetarian, or a meat eater looking to try something new.

Sharing the recipe, Alfie said: "You cannot beat a homemade burger, especially during BBQ season watching the football. Whether you’re a football fan or just like a good burger (who doesn’t?!), this jalapeño crunch burger using the new Beyond Burger Jalapeño is an absolute winner.

“Perfect footie fare for watching a summer of football. Juicy, meaty and 100% plant-based, with a spicy kick, it even got the seal of approval from the wonderful Lia Walti. As a lifelong Arsenal fan, it doesn’t get much better than that!"

METHOD

For the guacamole, scoop out the flesh into a bowl, then mash with a fork. Finely dice 1/2 a red onion, the cherry tomatoes + coriander leaves, then mix into the avocado. Squeeze over the juice of 1 lime, season with salt + pepper, then leave covered in the fridge until serving.

For the chipotle mayo, simply mix mayo with the chipotle paste + a squeeze of lime juice. Set aside.

For the quick pickled onions, simply slice 1/2 of it into half moons, squeeze over the juice of 1 lime, season with salt + scrunch together until they turn a lighter pink colour.

For the buns, slice in half, then toast in a pan with melted butter until golden brown.

For the burgers, warm 1 tbsp of oil in a frying pan, then fry the burger on each side for 4-5 minutes, or until darkened in colour (or grill on bbq).

Once cooked, top with a slice of cheese, then add a splash of water to the pan, place the lid on top + allow to melt. Repeat for all burgers.

To assemble, chipotle mayo on the bottom, then the jalapeño-cheese burger, guac, nachos, pickled onions, then more chipotle mayo on the top bun.

Beyond Burger Jalapeño is available in packs of 2 from Tesco, Sainsburys and Ocado from RRP: £4.30.
