Pret customers are furious after the popular lunch spot made some big changes to its subscription service.

This week the chain announced there's been a shake-up, and a few things are set to alter. From September, the existing Club Pret benefits will be replaced by a "new and simpler" offer, according to the branch.

When the change kicks in, subscribers will get 50% off up to five Barista made drinks a day for a reduced monthly fee of £10 – and just £5 for existing and new subscribers until March 31, 2025. Coffee lovers will also benefit from some price reductions.

As of now, Pret’s signature 100% organic Arabica Filter Coffee will be available for just 99p, down from £1.80. Together with this, the classic All Butter Croissant will be available for £1.99, down from £2.30.

While it may sound like good news to those who aren't in the know, customers have been left fuming. This is because there will no longer be any 'free' drinks.

People have taken to X to express how furious they are at the decision. One person even said he'll never buy food there again if Pret don't think carefully about the changes it's making.

One person said: "Quiet sobbing observed in every white collar London office as the news about the @Pret subscription breaks."

Another added: "Pret are changing their subscription service from free 5 coffee’s to 50% off coffee’s. It’s a very sad day for coffee lovers."

A third replied: "@Pret You are making a huge mistake. There is time to rectify it.

"Otherwise, I am cancelling my subscription, & will never step foot into any of your stores (which will quickly shut down, one by one, from September onwards) ever again. No one drinks your coffee for the coffee."

Since people started talking about it online, many people have been complaining. Customers dubbed the offer "poor value", and claimed many will end up cancelling their subscriptions.

Pret did reply to one of the posts though, and defended the future amendments. The food chain said: "We're sorry to hear that you're unhappy with the recent announcement. For £10 a month, we believe that the change in the subscription is still great value for money.

"You get to enjoy a 50% discount on up to 5 Barista-made drinks per day, with an introductory offer of £5 per month until 31 March 2025."

Pret a Manger has been contacted for comment.
