You may have seen recipes and advertisements for smashed burgers taking over your social media timelines - and you're not alone.

This new and trendy way to eat a burger is taking the world by storm, and you can see why with this mouth-watering recipe of smashed beef mince, cooked over a hot flat grill to create a juicy, caramelised, beefy burger patty.

One brand taking the industry by storm is Burgerism, a Manchester-based burger delivery brand. Having recently been named as one of The Times’ Top 10 Burgers in Britain, it’s fair to say they really do serve up some amazing, restaurant-quality burgers.

And one burger fan travelled 200 miles to test the truth of Burgerism's claims.

Charlotte Kahl, a 47-year-old burger enthusiast from Winchester, discovered Burgerism on TikTok over a year ago and knew she just had to try it - despite living hours away in Winchester.

To make the journey to Manchester, Charlotte took four days off work and travelled for five hours, explaining: "Being a huge burger fan, I am always on the lookout for new places to visit and having tried many local burger takeaways in my area, I was desperate to try something new.

"I saw Burgerism online and couldn’t stop thinking about it for days after – I just knew I had to make the trip."

During her trip to Manchester, Charlotte stayed in a local hotel and ensured it was within ordering proximity to Burgerism’s Salford outlet, so she could simply order a meal straight to her hotel room.

And was the trip worth it? Charlotte certainly thinks so. She said: "From the first bite, I knew I had found something completely unique and delicious.

"The patties were perfectly smashed, the sauce was incredible, and the side of chips made the meal a solid 10/10. Burgerism truly deserves its spot as one of the top burgers in Britain, I will most definitely be making the trip again."

Charlotte added: "I’m not ashamed to say it, but I purposely make social plans up north now, just so that I’ve got an excuse to grab a Burgerism."

Hearing about Charlotte's burger odyssey, Mark Murphy, founder of Burgerism commented: “We are thrilled to hear stories like Charlotte’s - it’s a testament to the passion we put into every burger we smash.

"Our goal has always been to bring restaurant quality smashed burgers straight into people’s homes – or in this case hotels! - and knowing that people are willing to travel such distances to enjoy our food is incredibly rewarding. We can’t wait to open more outlets across the UK so that everyone can have a bite of Burgerism!"
