Remove weeds from patios in ‘1 hour’ with gardener’s ‘amazing’ homemade weed killer recipe
Patios and paving compliments gardens well, however, weeds can quickly make the space look scruffy and unkempt. With no need for toxic chemicals, one gardener has shared their homemade weed killer recipe to remove weeds.
Weeds are a persistent part of nature that are the bane of so many keen gardeners’ lives.
Popping up where you do not want them, getting in the way or stealing nutrients away from the plants you would rather grow instead.
Weeds can come in all sorts of shapes - even your lawn is technically classed as a weed - but often the most unwelcome are the ones that end up growing between your patio slabs.
They are unsightly and can even lead to structural damage if left too long.
So, what is the best way to get rid of them? Taking to the Mrs Hinch Gardening Tips Facebook page, one user shared how she was able to kill her patio weeds in an hour.

“It’s amazing, I can’t believe it worked so fast. I’m absolutely delighted. I used just under four litres of water, a cup of salt and one tablespoon of washing-up liquid.”
“I first heard about this on another gardening group, didn’t expect results, but it worked so well.”
Group members took to the comments to share their thoughts and many were in favour of this method.

So why is this effective? Well, both vinegar and salt are rich in acetic acid, which dries out and destroys plants.
Washing up liquid acts as a surfactant, ensuring the solution penetrates the leaf pores instead of just sitting on top.
Directly spray the weeds with this solution, ensuring they’re thoroughly drenched. However, do so with caution as this mixture doesn’t differentiate between weeds and other plants.
If weeds are growing near plants that you would wish to keep, make sure to be careful with your spraying techniques.
