In the world of gardening, a common yet avoidable mistake has been causing plants to suffer unnecessarily.

Thanks to the innovative advice of a popular TikToker, gardeners are now learning a more efficient way to water their plants, ensuring healthier growth and vibrant foliage.

The TikTok channel Joesgarden, @joesgarden, has gained a massive following of over a million and a half users, all eager to soak in gardening wisdom from Joe.

Joe recently shared a crucial tip that could change the way people care for potted plants. "Be careful when you’re watering your pots from the top," Joe warns his viewers in one of his videos.

He explained that watering plants from above might not effectively reach the roots, potentially leading to water pooling on the surface and depriving the roots of necessary hydration.

Instead, Joe suggested a different approach using a large tray or container filled with water. By placing the pot directly into the water-filled container, gardeners can ensure that water seeps up through the drainage holes at the bottom of the pot, thoroughly and evenly hydrating the soil.

"This method gives your plant an even drink all the way throughout," Joe said. For larger pots that cannot be submerged, Joe suggests another clever technique.

He advises placing a smaller, empty pot within the larger pot alongside the plant. Water poured into the smaller pot will gradually seep through the drainage holes, reaching the roots and providing the necessary moisture.

The benefits of proper watering extend beyond plant health.

For those with limited space, potted plants offer numerous advantages, from air purification to noise reduction and even cooling effects during summer months.

These benefits not only enhance living spaces but also contribute to a healthier environment and reduced energy consumption.

Commenters on Joe's TikTok were quick to applaud his practical advice. "This was actually so helpful," shared one viewer, while another admitted adjusting their own watering habits after watching the video.
