Houseplants to be prescribed as mental health treatment
HOUSEPLANTS, exercise and gardening should all be prescribed as mental health treatments, says the president of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Doctors will soon be making social prescriptions
Dr Adrian James said he believes doctors will soon turn to "social prescribing" alongside therapy and medication ‑ and reports that some already have. Patients can benefit by "nurturing a living thing and giving life some meaning", Dr James said.
He was supporting ITV's Love Your Garden co-host David Domoney, whose Chelsea Flower Show exhibit featured plants that benefit wellbeing ‑ and who said there is a "symbiotic relationship between humans and plants inside the home".
