Basildon Hospital chief's bumper payoff
THE former chief executive of scandal-hit Basildon Hospital received a £72,000 payoff, it emerged yesterday.
When Alan Whittle, 57, left last September he received £72,000 as “compensation for loss of office”. This came on top of his £150,000 salary and £30,000 tax-free “cash”. Mr Whittle, who also left with a £1.7million pension, presided over several scandals at the Essex hospital from 2003, including the UK’s highest death rates for 2009.
