When you can't use the outdoor washing line, and tumble dryers are too costly to run, folks need a quick way to dry their laundry without having unattractive clothes airer out in the living room for days.

Luckily, there's a solution. Dehumidifiers have become more popular in recent years - and there's one brand that customers say can cut your drying time in half.

Fans of Mrs Hinch have given their seal of approval to Meaco dehumidifiers, which have almost reached cult status, according to the Facebook group Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips.

However, they're not cheap. The most affordable one - the MeacoDry ABC 10L Dehumidifier in white is priced at £149.99 at John Lewis, while the Meaco Arete Dehumidifier and Air Purifier, 20L will cost you £259.99.

But fans of Mrs Hinch insist it's worth the initial cost. "We looked at quite a few and decided on Meaco," one said.

"I was amazed at how much water it takes out when using it for drying clothes.

"My wash can now dry in six hours or less, depending on the thickness of the items on the airer, compared to a day or two before."

One fan was "amazed by how much water her Meaco collects". Another user found the dehumidifier a bit louder than expected but said she was "happy with it regardless", reported the Mirror.

Experts say one common mistake is where you place your dehumidifier. If it's in a corner or near walls, it can "restrict airflow and thereby reduce its efficiency". They suggest putting it in the middle of the room for best results.

When drying clothes, use the dehumidifier in the smallest room for the best outcome.

Home expert Lynsey Crombie advises: "Choose the smallest room to dry your clothes and shut the door.

"Place the unit about six inches from your clothes with the vent facing them - they'll dry quicker. Turn your clothes rack every hour to speed things up."

Like all appliances, remember to look after your dehumidifier. Not changing filters, emptying the water, or maintaining the coils can lead to "decreased performance and potential breakdowns".
