An expert has shared a foolproof method to revive a pillow for under £1 - and all it takes is two simple items you can find easily and might even have at home.

The team at Piglet in Bed has a simple, budget-friendly tip to help you skip the expense of buying new pillows every few months.

Rhiannon Masters, interior designer and Head of Brand, explained how the trick gives your old, lumpy pillows a new lease of life.

She said: “This trick is super simple and affordable and might just transform your sleep. All you need is a tennis ball and a sock - that's it!

“You can purchase a tennis ball for as little as 90p. Once you have that, insert it into any old tube sock and tie the top in a knot.

“All you have to do then is throw it into your tumble dryer along with any sad-looking pillows and pop it on your normal cycle at medium heat.”

She added: “The ball will bounce inside the drum and essentially beat out the lumps in your pillow, returning them to their former, fluffy glory.”

Other tricks to keep your pillows as good as new:

1. Daily fluffing

To maintain your pillows in a state similar to the luxurious feel of hotel pillows, it's crucial to fluff them every day. While this might seem like an added task, you can easily fit it into your daily morning routine when you make your bed.

Just grab each side of the pillow and alternately squeeze and release it, then flip it over and repeat the process on the other side.

Spend about 30 seconds on this to restore the pillow’s fluffiness and bounce.

2. Pillow rotation

If you use several pillows on your bed, regularly rotating them and changing the side you sleep on can help maintain their fluffiness over time.

Doing this a few times a month will evenly distribute the pressure on each pillow, reducing wear on the filling and extending their lifespan.

3. Choose wool-filled pillows

Down or synthetic-filled pillows can become lumpy over time due to moisture from sweat.

Opting for pillows filled with natural fibres, such as merino wool, can be a better solution.

Wool’s natural ability to regulate temperature helps keep you comfortable by staying cool when it's warm and warm when it's cold.

Less moisture means your pillows are less likely to become lumpy quickly.
