BRITONS are being inspired to name their houses after classic books, animals and flowers with ‘Orchard’ revealed as the most popular.
House names are becoming more diverse each year
Meadow, Rose Oak and Willow are also favourites when it comes to picking monikers for the nation’s bricks and mortar.
Books and television shows are influencing homeowners with Toad Hall, ‘Thornfield’ from Jane Eyre and ‘Highclere’ from Downton Abbey popping up in suburban streets.
Ross Poldark’s, Nampara cottage can be found on 116 addresses across Britain while Game of Thrones’ Martell, Noble and Bolton are also popular.
The most common house names are based on animals and plants according to the research by Royal Mail.
Iconic names such as White House and Clarence also feature on the list of favourites with classics like The Old Vicarage, The Old Post Office and The Cottage still popular.
Royal Mail spokesman Steve Rooney said: “We deliver mail to over 29 million addresses, six days a week which puts us in the unique position of being able to see the amazing house names that people choose.

Around 11,900 UK homes are called ‘Orchard’ according to the research with Meadow (11,473) and Rose Cottage (11,308) in second and third places.
Norwich residents are inspired by the greenery and open spaces with the area having the highest concentrations of both Orchard and Meadow.
Mythical creatures are popular in Guernsey, Haslemere, Norwich and York where there are a few ‘Bag Ends’ from the Hobbit.
Dover and Selby are the most likely places to find Harry Potter’s famous school, Hogwarts.
Growing popularity of the royal family has seen a surge in houses called Clarence (230), Sandringham (133) and Balmoral (67).
People in Doncaster, Guernsey and Holyhead are more likely to pay tribute to rock and roll royalty by naming their home after Elvis Presley’s Graceland.
Royal Mail analysed a database of all 29.3 million UK addresses to identify the 50 most popular house names.
