Tiny Wi-Fi gadget can solve broadband connection issues - 'no problem to install'

Mesh networks use new hardware to create a better Wi-Fi network throughout your home. Amazon's Eero 6 can help improve buffering, AKA the tech 'circle of death'.

Too many of us put up with spotty Wi-Fi in our own homes day in and day out - it's a blight that can make video calls perilous and download speeds torturous, and it can even hamper smart home tech like Amazon Echo speakers and more. There's a better way than just relying on your default router, though - setting up a simple and easy-to-manage mesh system.

Mesh networks basically use new hardware to create a better Wi-Fi network throughout your home, with extenders that act as tentpoles to keep this network steady and fast, letting you map things out better - and a really sturdy option to explore is Eero. Owned by Amazon itself, Eero makes superb Wi-Fi products, and right now it has some great deals live ahead of Prime Day (July 16-17), especially if you already have an Eero mesh system set up.

Eero's individual extra extenders are heavily reduced, down to £64.99 from £99 for each extender, so you can easily add more to make a bigger network area. Each extender can be added to your network super easily in the Eero app - and if you don't have a mesh network yet, there's also a terrific deal on a Router + Extender starter kit, down from £209.98 to £114.99, saving you a massive £94.99.

The Eero 6 system, which requires you to have an existing Eero network in place, has been really well-reviewed by experts, scoring a four-star verdict when reviewed by the Express. Last year, the review noted the product is expensive, but praised it for offering "ridiculously stable Wi-Fi", plus "regular security updates".

And users on Amazon have agreed - it has an average customer score of 4.4 stars from over 2,100 reviews. Some of these are incredibly glowing, like one that said: "Living in a home with solid walls, I was concerned about dead spots and connectivity issues, but these routers have performed flawlessly throughout my house. No more dead spots – it's a dream come true!"

Another user wrote: "The connection throughout the house is fantastic. Streaming movies and gaming on the secondfloor is a breeze." Finally, a third said: "No problem to install, quick and easy with Eero app. WiFi coverage is now excellent into all corners of my old property." Clearly, plenty of people have stronger networks after upgrading to a mesh system.

Others, though, have had some hesitations. One less pleased customer wrote: "The power indicator light on this is so bright it could be used as a night light, so irritating. One of the units is in a bedroom and I had to cover the light." That's worth knowing if you're light-sensitive. Another user said: "The major downside and dealbreaker for me is the features that are under subscription." It's true that many Eero features like website-blocking are behind a paywall, which is something to look into if you're interested.

Other mesh network options exist, of course, but they're often quite pricy - like Netgear's Orbi Mesh WiFi 6 System, which currently has a starter kit including two extenders for a massive £444.98 The TP-Link Deco S4 AC1200 system is much more affordable at £109.99 for a similar kit, but its extenders are a lot less nice to look at.

Elsewhere, Argos also sells a budget-friendly extender from TP Link for £15.99.
