BT redirected EVERY customers' email to one unlucky man
TELECOMS firm BT somehow managed to send EVERYONE'S email to one random man.
Broadband firm BT just sent everyone's email to one unlucky man's inbox
Broadband firm BT has bombarded a man named Steve Webb with thousands of personal and private emails from almost-everyone with a BT Internet email address.
The UK's biggest broadband provider redirected its customers' outgoing emails to [email protected] for some three hours.
So, if you own an @btinternet.com email address and sent a message yesterday – chances are, it is now sitting in Steve Webb's inbox.
BT customers took to Twitter to complain that their emails were being bounced back, with the internet provider helpfully informing them their message could not be delivered to the email address [email protected].
BT redirected every customers' sent email to one guy called Steve Webb
According to The Register, the redirected emails appear to be the result of an internal test or maintenance gone haywire.
A spokesperson for the broadband firm said: "A small number of customers reported an issue sending emails earlier. Sorry about this, it's fixed now.
"The mailbox in the delivery failure notification was for internal/test use and appeared in error, sorry for any confusion that caused."
Fortunately, Steve Webb appears to be an internal test account – and not a disproportionality unlucky BT subscriber.
The news comes as BT was named as one of the worst broadband providers in the UK.
TalkTalk, with 38 per cent, and BT, with 47 per cent, achieved the worst customer scores due to poor customer service and lack of ease in contacting them.
More than 3,700 broadband users were surveyed for the latest Which? study.

Which? Executive Director Richard Lloyd said: "These latest results show that some of the major broadband providers are still under-performing and are failing to meet their customers basic requirements.
"Broadband is now essential so consumers need to have consistent and reliable internet speeds and have the confidence that when things go wrong they will quickly be put right."
