Father's Day is fast approaching and if you are struggling to choose a gift, a watch is a fail-safe way to bring a smile to your dad's face.

British jeweller Ernest Jones is selling an impressive Boss timepiece, the Candor Automatic, that is undeniably sophisticated. As the name suggests, the watch does not run on batteries but on automatic movement - meaning it's self powered and the more it runs, the longer it will last.

While many automatic watches have a hefty starting price of four figures, the Boss Candor Automatic is comparatively accessible at £339 and you can choose from a black dial or a light-blue dial.

The timepiece is priced higher than other Boss watches but that's because it uses Japanese Miyota movement - which manufactures for watch brands like Armani, Fossil, Citizen or Bulova at an affordable level. The open caseback gives you a clear view of how the details work.

The Candor Automatic is slick, stylish, and also stands the test of time. Your dad won't have to worry getting new battery every few years. The silver tone stainless steel bracelet and the black round casing also make it a timeless gift that your dad can wear on any occasion.

It also resembles the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra that could set you back at a staggering £5,900. The Boss Candor features a date window at the 3 o'clock position and is water-resistant to 50 metres.

The watch is the latest to join the Candor family, with the black dial and leather strap version currently on sale for £99 instead of £139.

Ernest Jones now offer a free gift wrapping service for Father's Day and it will be automatically applied once an item is added to your basket.

If you want something more scratch-resistant, Swatch has a range of affordable automatic watches in silicone casing, with prices starting from £145. The bracelet version of Sistem Boreal retails at £211.
