Rishi Sunak must have had flashbacks today to the torrential downpour he suffered when announcing a general election last month. Mr Sunak could understandably feel cursed by bad weather after he was again caught in heavy rain today as he attended Trooping the Colour alongside his wife Akshata Murty. However, the couple defiantly braved the rain and refused to don ponchos, which many in the crowd opted for today.

Instead, the pair appeared to laugh off the bad weather and were later seen huddled under an umbrella that someone had given them.

It was only last month when Mr Sunak was caught in another downpour - as the UK summer weather seemingly refuses to improve. The PM had only started his speech to announce the snap election when the downpour started. He had to persevere at the No 10 lectern while the miserable weather drenched him in front of the world's cameras.

The moment was widely derided with every front page in the country the next morning featuring the drenched PM.

Before he attended Trooping the Colour today, Mr Sunak took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to show his support for King Charles III, simply tweeting: "God Save the King." He later said that it was "an honour to attend Trooping the Colour".

It has been a busy week for the PM, who was enjoying the sunshine of southern Italy only yesterday while at the G7 summit.

During a jam-packed Saturday, Mr Sunak was also given a top-secret briefing at an emergency defense meeting after a Russian nuclear submarine was identified off the coast of Scotland.

The PM's busy day is not over, however, with Mr Sunak set to head to Switzerland for a landmark peace summit this evening to discuss a ceasefire in Ukraine.

Mr Sunak and his wife were two of the thousands who came out onto London's streets to witness one of the biggest events in the royal calendar.

Catherine, Princess of Wales made her much-anticipated first public appearance of the year at the annual parade.

The princess, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment, was on the Buckingham Palace balcony at the end of a ceremony filled with pomp and pageantry.

King Charles III, who is also receiving treatment for cancer, inspected troops from a gold carriage, rather than on horseback.
