Kate Middleton BOMBSHELL: How Prince Charles was 'greatly CONCERNED' about Duchess
KATE MIDDLETON was at the centre of "great concern" within the Royal Family, particularly within the walls of Prince Charles' Clarence House, during the early days of her relationship with Prince William, it was claimed.
Princess Diana's shadow 'looms' over Kate Middleton says expert
The 1981 fairytale wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles and Kate Middleton’s marriage to Prince William in 2011 were both hugely significant events in the history of the Royal Family. Diana had an awkward relationship with the media and, at times, she complained about intrusion, accusing photographers and journalists of making normal life impossible for her. In the BBC’s 2015 documentary “Reinventing the Royals”, experts commented on the similarities between the now Duchess of Cambridge and the late Princess of Wales.
Stig Abell, former employee of the Press Complaints Commission, said: “Kate Middleton made good copy for everybody."
The Daily Mail’s Richard Kay described how, before news broke that William and Kate were an item, “everyday mobs of photographers were outside her house photographing her”.
Royal biographer Penny Junor even described an incident at Heathrow airport in 2001 as Kate Middleton walked through the gates, noting “there were some paparazzi there and they were shouting” abusive phrases to get the future Duchess’ attention.
According to the documentary, a Clarence House statement issued on behalf of Charles and Camilla said they were “greatly concerned by the hounding of Kate Middleton” after the incident.
Mr Abell recalled how “a young woman, being pursued by photographers, the shadow of Diana looms very large”.
Mr Kay also noted: “Diana was thrown to the dogs as Charles' girlfriend and fiancée, she had to completely fend for herself.
“They [the Royal Family] weren’t going to allow that situation to happen again."
Prince William’s privacy lawyers were employed and it was made clear that they would “not tolerate Kate Middleton being harassed”, according to Mr Kay.
Last month, Hollywood actor George Clooney compared Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle’s treatment by the media to Princess Diana.
Speaking on a panel for his new show in February 2019, "Catch-22," he took time out to comment on the "frustrating" media coverage he has witnessed with Meghan Markle, the now Duchess of Sussex.
Mr Clooney said: "She's a woman who is seven months pregnant and she is being pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was – and it's history repeating itself."
