Meghan Markle reads to patients at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles
Meghan Markle appeared to break a royal protocol rule during one of her recent appearances with a gesture the Princess of Wales would never do.
The Duchess of Sussex last month surprised young patients at Children's Hospital Los Angeles on March 21 when she showed up to support their Make March Matter fundraising campaign, took photographs with them and later autographed them, as seen in a video which surfaced last week on social media.
Now royal commentator Daniela Elser pointed out the fact that Princess Kate and the rest of the royals are not "allowed" to sign autographs.
She recalled the future queen's appearance at the Chelsea Flower Show’s inaugural Children’s Picnic in 2023 where Kate replied to young royal fans asking for an autograph: "I can’t write my name, but I can draw" and "My name’s Catherine. I’m not allowed to write my signature, it’s just one of those rules."
Ms Elser wrote on news.com.au: "Any who in the video of the duchess’ visit, put out by Extra TV, Meghan can be seen posing for Polaroid photos with the kids and then autographing them. And just like that the Queen Mother rolled over in her grave, knocking over the bar set she insisted on being buried with. Members of the royal family, you see, don’t ‘do’ autographs."
