Princess Kate received lavish wedding gift that Zara Tindall was denied due to strict rule
Princess Kate and Zara Tindall both married their respective husbands, Prince William and Mike Tindall, in 2011.
'It's Bittersweet Isn't It To Think How Proud Our Grandmother Would Have Been' - Zara Tindall
In spite of being born into the Royal Family, Zara Tindall was denied a lavish wedding gift that Princess Kate received on her big day over 13 years ago.
The two women were married just three months apart, with Kate and Prince William tying the knot on April 29 2011 at Westminster Abbey as millions of fans watched around the world.
Then on July 30 that year Zara married her long-term boyfriend, professional rugby player Mike Tindall, at Canongate Kirk on Edinburgh's Royal Mile.
On the day of his wedding William received a special honour from his grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth, as she made him Duke of Cambridge with Kate to be his Duchess.
However the Tindall's received no such title when they married, which is due to a very specific royal custom dating back several centuries.

Sadly for Zara it is still only the sons and grandsons of presiding monarchs that are granted peerages when they marry, meaning William and his brother Prince Harry were both eligible.
Harry became Duke of Sussex when he married Meghan Markle on May 19 2018, with Meghan also then assuming the title Duchess of Sussex.
However Zara and her older brother Peter Phillips did not make the cut when they married their partners, and neither did their cousins Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

British princesses are traditionally not afforded this right as throughout history they were married off into European royal families, to help Britain build foreign alliances.
When Zara and Peter were born their mother Princess Anne rejected the idea of them having royal titles, something Zara has sine said she is grateful for.
She told Rob Burrow on his Total Sport podcast: "From my point of view, I was obviously very lucky that my mother didn't give us any titles so I really commend her on that.
"We were very lucky that we got to do it a bit our own way. My family has a great work ethic as well which I'm hoping they instilled in me and is still going to this day."
She added: "Hopefully, we can pass it onto our kids. Now, my brother and my cousins love to go back and do the same things and I hope that our children have the same experiences that we did when we were growing up. You don't really appreciate that until you're older and you've got kids."
Zara and Mike currently live on the Princess Royal's Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire with their three children Mia, Lena and Lucas.
