The monarch appeared on the balcony of Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen and was joined by his wife , their four children, Crown Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine and his mother, Queen Margrethe.

It was a special occasion for Frederik who celebrated his first birthday after his mother's abdication.

The king looked dapper in a navy suit which he paired with a red tie as he waved to the crowds.

Mary styled her brunette locks in loose waves and she kept her make-up natural.

Queen Margrethe matched her daughter-in-law by sporting a fuschia midi dress by Zimmermann and her signature Daisy brooch.

Meanwhile, Princess Isabella looked chic in a blue floral dress by Zimmerman, while her sister donned a light blue and white dress by Paul & Joe.

Crown Prince Christian and Prince Vincent matched their father as they both sported navy suits.

It comes as the Danish royal couple while on a state visit to Norway.

That was their second official visit abroad after Frederik's mother, Queen Margrethe abdicated this year.

It saw them reunite with King Harald V and Queen Sonja as well as Norway's heir, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit - who they have a friendly relationship with.
