Prince Andrew risks being thrown back into the spotlight after Donald Trump threatened to declassify top secret files relating to Jeffrey Epstein.

It comes after court files in January revealed the Duke of York "spent weeks" at the sex offender and financier's Florida mansion, according to a 2009 deposition.

Juan Alessi, who managed Epstein's residence in Palm Beach, claimed that Andrew stayed in the guest bedroom and had daily massages.

The testimony appears in around 1,300 pages of evidence given as part of a 2015 defamation lawsuit by Virginia Giuffre against Ghislaine Maxwell.

The files also mentioned other high-profile names including Donald Trump himself, but he was not accused of any wrongdoing in the course of Giuffre's lawsuit.

Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence after she was convicted in 2021 of aiding Epstein's sex trafficking of young women and girls.

In 2019, during a disastrous interview with the BBC, the Duke of York said he had no memory of ever meeting Ms Giuffre.

Three years later he paid her an undisclosed fee to settle her sex assault lawsuit against him, but did so with no admission as to liability.

Andrew, who strenuously denies the allegations, has faced calls to talk to the FBI and US prosecutors still investigating Epstein, who allege the royal has declined to cooperate with them.

The Duke stepped back from royal duties in November 2019, with Buckingham Palace confirming he would do so for the "foreseeable future". In 2022 he lost his military titles and HRH status.

But if Trump, 77, does declassify the documents Andrew's past friendship risks being thrust back into the spotlight.

The former US president promised to unseal scores more Epstein documents, along with files on 8/11 and JFK's assassination, if he gets back into the White House in November.

It came after Trump was found guilty on all 34 criminal counts in his hush money trial.

He told Fox that he would get his "revenge" on his enemies by beating Joe Biden in November.

Trump said: "My revenge will be success.

"These are bad people. These people are sick, and they do things that are so destructive… if it weren't me, they'd be going after somebody else, and I know a lot of the competition. They wouldn't do so well."

Trump was ruled to have falsified business records after paying adult film star Stormy Daniels to cover up an alleged affair.

Following the trial's conclusion, Trump derided the judgment and branded the US a "fascist state".
