The Royal Family will participate in one of the most important events in the royal calendar on Saturday, celebrating the King's birthday.

Trooping the Colour will take place on Saturday, June 15th with regiments of the Household Division turning out on Horse Guards Parade to commemorate the occasion. Senior royals will be in attendance.

King Charles has been undergoing treatment for cancer, making this year's celebration especially poignant.

The King has confirmed he will take part in proceedings this weekend, but will inspect the troops from inside a carriage instead of atop a horse.

Also undergoing cancer treatment, it's unsure as to whether Kate, Princess of Wales will be at the event.

Kate sent her apologies to the Irish Guards this past weekend for missing The Colonel Review.

She wrote in a letter to the regiment: "Being your colonel remains a great honour and I am very sorry that I'm unable to take the salute at this year's Colonel's Review."

Kate is not expected to return to royal duties for the foreseeable, and it is not known whether she will be in attendance on Saturday.

However for those royals at the event, one of the most iconic moments of Trooping the Colour is when they appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony to watch the traditional flypast.

Usually the youngest royals - Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, nine and Prince Louis, six - join their family on the balcony to see the spectacle.

And for those not able to get to London to witness the spectacle, Trooping the Colour will be shown live on BBC One on Saturday from 10.30am.
