The Princess of Wales was upholding Princess Charlotte's long-standing wish with their visit to Wimbledon on Sunday, an expert has claimed.

The mother-daughter duo were spotted court side at the Wimbledon Men's Final on July 14, with the royal's latest public appearance marking her second of the year.

Kate's decision to bring Charlotte along with her was not a spur-of-the-moment one and was reportedly something that was wished for by the nine-year-old.

According to royal author and commentator Ingrid Seward, the 42-year-old was feeling "guilty" and was simply honouring Charlotte's wish.

Speaking to the Sun, Ms Seward said: "It was a long held promise that Kate would take Charlotte to the finals as a special treat.

'Kate felt guilty she hadn’t been able to spend as much time as she would have liked to be with the kids because of her exhaustion after her treatment."

The Princess of Wales was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year after post-operative tests showed cancer had been present.

Since she started receiving preventative treatment in March, she had only appeared at Trooping the Colour last month.

Her appearance yesterday with her daughter was also a hope to "deflect" any attention that may come her way, as reported by the Mirror.

Ms Seward added: "Charlotte is there to deflect things away from her too. Kate was determined to be at Wimbledon on finals day if she possibly could."
