Golden Girl Mary Peters plays host to the Queen as she arrives in Northern Ireland
FORMER Golden Girl Mary Peters greeted the Queen yesterday as she arrived in Northern Ireland for a three-day visit.
The Queen flew into Belfast with Prince Philip and were also greeted by Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Theresa Villiers.
Olympic and Commonwealth pentathlon gold medallist Dame Mary is now Lord Lieutenant of Belfast.
She represented Northern Ireland at every Commonwealth Games between 1958 and 1974 and set a world record to win pentathlon gold in the 1972 Munich Olympics.
The Royal couple’s first engagement was at Hillsborough Castle, which is the Queen’s official residence in Northern Ireland.
