The cost of extremism
TAXPAYERS’ cash aimed at combating Islamic extremism is being handed to Premier League soccer clubs, West End theatres and local councils, a report revealed yesterday.
Researchers from the TaxPayers’ Alliance used Freedom of Information laws to expose how the Government’s £45million-a-year “prevent strategy” funds were being distributed.
They found millions are being lavished on Muslim-only projects supposed to keep youngsters away from militants.
The report found that around £12million a year from the fund is being given to local councils for special Muslim community projects.
Critics last night questioned whether the huge sums were being wasted on politically correct initiatives.
