Scot mugged by Thai motorbike thugs dies in hospital
A SCOT mugged in Thailand 10 days ago has died in a hospital in Bangkok.
The cremation of Lydia Riach, 58, from Inverness, will be held today in a Thai temple.
Husband Douglas Riach, 75, a former director of Caledonian Thistle FC, said yesterday: “She passed away peacefully. I’ll be returning home with her ashes on Friday.
“I’m returning with Lydia so we can be among relatives and lifelong friends. I thank all who those have given their support.
“It has been tremendous and has helped the family.”
Mrs Riach was attacked by a motorcycle snatch team who grabbed her handbag as she walked behind her husband in a narrow lane in the city.
She was wearing her bag around her head and shoulders and suffered head injuries as she was dragged along the ground. The couple were on their way to watch football at a bar owned by fellow expatriate Ray McLaughlin, of Paisley.
Expatriates there chipped in to help pay for hospital costs.
Mr McLaughlin said: “Its such a sad thing to happen to a lovely couple.” Lydia and Douglas arrived in Thailand two years ago.
A spokesman for Thai police at Thonglor said: “We have a witness and leads. We will apprehend the killers.”
