Travel firm leaves 10,000 waiting for their cash
THOUSANDS of holidaymakers left out of pocket when the UK’s third-largest tour operator collapsed have still not had their money back, it emerged last night.
Regulators blamed incomplete documents for nearly 10,000 disappointed travellers not having had refunds one year after the collapse of XL Leisure Group.
The group went into administration last September leaving some 85,000 British holidaymakers stranded.
Those insured under the Air Travel Organisers’ Licensing scheme (Atol) were entitled to compensation from the Civil Aviation Authority.
But as yesterday’s deadline passed, the CAA admitted that 9,788 claims have yet to be settled.
Last night, travel watchdogs branded the “shambolic” system a “disgrace”.
The CAA apologised for the delay. Spokesman David Glover said: “It is the CAA’s intention to settle all valid claims as quickly as possible.”
