Ex-nurses wanted for pandemic
THOUSANDS of former nurses and midwives could be back at work in the event of a swine flu surge.
Officials expect cases to increase and letters will be sent to about 10,000 Scots registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon said: “The Scottish Government revised guidance for NHS boards on the workforce implications of pandemic flu.
“It provides the NHS with guidance on a range of issues such as the potential deployment of staff from other sources, including retired and former staff.”
The NMC is contacting more than 90,000 nurses and midwives encouraging them to consider applying for re-admission to the register.
