Author is 'crippled' by mugger
THE author of much-loved children’s stories Topsy And Tim has been left “crippled” by a teenage mugger.
Widow Jean Adamson, 81, who has sold 21 million books, said: “It’s shocking that an old lady can’t walk safely in her own street.”
Mrs Adamson had been walking home from her local Post Office in Stretham, Cambridgeshire, when the thug tried to grab her bag. Her arm was broken as she valiantly fought him off.
She added: “Many youngsters these days seem to have this self-centred attitude and no sympathy for older people.
Times have truly changed from the days of Topsy and Tim.
“It was a horrible experience and has left me a bit crippled – I was a very nimble and active old lady who had never broken a bone in her life.
“It would be sad to think he may have grown up reading my books.”
The author was awarded an MBE in 1999 for services to children’s literature.
