10,000 Remembrance Day poppies vandalised
VANDALS have defiled poppies stored in a church hall for the Royal British Legion Remembrance Day appeal.
More than 10,000 have had to be destroyed after the attack in which they were urinated and defecated on. A police source said: “It appears to be disgusting wanton vandalism but we obviously have to investigate to ensure there is nothing more sinister going on.” An inquiry has been launched into whether anti-war protesters were involved.
The yobs broke into the hall next to Doncaster Minster. Verger Chris Clay said: “What these vandals have done is sickening.” The poppies were being stored awaiting sale in the run-up to Remembrance Sunday in November.
