Covid vaccination is possible for millions of people by spring, says expert
ONE of Britain's most eminent immunologists yesterday said the idea that the UK could vaccinate a very large percentage of the population by spring is "completely possible".
Vaccine: Life to be 'dramatically different' by spring says Bell
Sir John Bell, regius professor of medicine at Oxford University and a member of the Government's vaccine taskforce, said it was becoming more likely there would also be positive news from other vaccine candidates including the Oxford/AstraZeneca one being trialled in the UK. Sir John said: "We can get vaccines into people in the UK and in most western countries pretty effectively.
"So the idea that we're going to vaccinate a very large percentage of the population by spring is completely possible.
"And that will make a big difference because people will be then less anxious about catching the disease because they will be vaccinated, transmissions will fall to a low level and we may not be back completely to normal but things are going to look dramatically different by the spring."
A $1million donation by Dolly Parton has helped fund a new coronavirus vaccine. In April, the country singer said she had donated the money (£750,000) to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
This week US company Moderna said the vaccine may be 94.5 percent effective.
