Elephant and Castle: Flames seen rising following incident
People have taken to social media to document a fire that has broken out in central London. Thick black smoke can be seen pouring out of a building, near Elephant Park in south London. One video, posted on social media, shows bright red flames ripping through what appears to be a building site.
Three fire engines are understood to have rushed to put out the blaze, at a building site.
Smoke alarms from nearby buildings were triggered by the fire, with videos showing workmen evacuating the site.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) said they had received 14 calls about the blaze, which they said is now under control.
They wrote on Twitter: "We took 14 calls to this very visible fire in #ElephantandCastle.
"The fire was at a building under construction and is now under control."
It comes just weeks after a huge blaze ignited by Elephant and Castle station on June 29.
About 100 firefighters were tasked with extinguishing the fire, which was caused by an electrical car fault.
Over 600 people were evacuated from the area and trains were forced to stop running.
