Nicholas Welch, 30, was spotted on CCTV as he swiped a total of 18 jars, worth £50, on four separate occasions.
Jim Keary, 54, station manager at the 24-hour W Grose Shell Garage in Kingsthorpe, Northampton, had to stop selling Marmite for several weeks in November.
Welch was finally caught when CCTV images were circulated among Northampton Retail Crime Initiative members. He was given a 12-month supervision order at Northampton Magistrates Court on Wednesday and is banned from 150 shops.
Mr Keary said: “He was clearly doing it to raise cash. It’s a funny way of making money, but I suppose he knew someone he could sell it on to for a quick profit.”
