M25 traffic latest: Motorway in gridlock as queues for 8 miles bring lanes to standstill
THE M25 was in gridlock on Tuesday morning with queues stretching up to eight miles long.

National Highways reported the collision at 7.22am.
By this time, traffic officers had arrived at the scene.
A car and a van are believed to have been involved.
Reports vary, but some suggest these extended to up to 10 miles.
6.5 miles of congestion built up between junctions 15 and 16 alone, adding a minimum of 30 minutes to normal journey times.
The motorway was slow from before Cobham Services, leading up to the point of collision.

In a Tweet, it said: “M25 queueing clockwise towards junction 16 (M40) because of a crash blocking the left lane - slow from J13 Staines and anticlockwise is slow past the scene with delays from junction 18 (Chorleywood.)”
The collision was cleared to the hard shoulder in quick fashion, with reports following at 7.51am.

By 9am, reports suggested that the traffic was easing.
This came as the Met Office set a number of weather warnings across the UK.
Four ‘Yellow’ warnings were issued for Tuesday for wind, snow and rain.
The Met Office warned that disruption to travel was likely.
This included delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport.
It advised that travellers take extra care when driving and to allow extra time for delays.
