Man dead after Skoda smashes into tree in tragic crash – police close off road
A MAN has died after his car crashed into a tree in Long Eaton, Derbyshire.
Derbyshire Police confirmed officers were alerted to an incident on Wilsthorpe Road shortly before 3pm on Monday. The force said the vehicle left the carriageway and collided with a tree.
The driver of the grey Skoda was rushed to Queen’s Medical Centre, but sadly died in hospital.
His family has been informed of the tragic news.
Derbyshire Police has launched an appeal for anyone with information to come forward.
The force is particularly interested in any motorists with dashcam footage.
Police closed the road between Dovedale Avenue and Cranfleet Way for a number of hours on Monday afternoon while an initial investigation was carried out.
Up to six police cars and a team of forensics were deployed to the scene.
The dual carriageway did not reopen until around 7pm.
In a statement, Derbyshire Police said: “We are appealing for information after a man sadly died in a collision in Long Eaton yesterday afternoon.
“We received a call at 2.50pm on 13 December to report a collision in Wilsthorpe Road, in which a grey Skoda Octavia had left the carriageway and collided with a tree.
“The driver of the Skoda was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre where he later died. His family have been made aware and our thoughts are with them at this sad time.
“The road was closed for several hours whilst collision investigation work and vehicle recovery took place.”
