Leicestershire: Hunt saboteur hit by car in shocking footage
A hunt saboteur was run over by a car in a hit-and-run on a village road on Tuesday. The woman in her 40s is a member of anti-hunting group Northants Hunt Saboteurs, and attended a meet to mark the start of the formal hunting season.
She was struck by a vehicle in Knossington, Leicestershire, at around midday but the car left the scene, according to police.
The woman was dashed to hospital but her condition is "not life-threatening or life-changing".
A video of the incident shared widely on social media showed a group of people who appeared to be monitoring a hunt.
The footage shows two riders passing a group of people walking down a wooded path, before a woman is knocked off the path by a car.
The police say the driver of the car has been identified and the investigation is continuing. No arrests have been made, reports Leicestershire Live.
A spokesman for the Northants Hunt Saboteurs confirmed that the woman has been discharged from the hospital. He said: "Amazingly, she didn't break any bones but mentally, she is in shock.
"We have suffered a lot of violence over the last few years but it does not put us off at all."
Detective Inspector Charles Edwards, of Leicestershire Police, said: "Our investigation into this incident is in its early stages.
"We’re aware of a video of the incident which has been posted online. I would ask that people do not share anything that could impact our enquiries.
"However, I would ask anyone who was in the area and saw what happened – or who has footage of the incident or events leading up to and after it – to come forward."
