Hill walkers struck by lightning
A MOUNTAIN rescue operation was launched after four hill walkers were struck by a spate of lightning strikes in the Lake District.
One man was said to have been thrown 30ft into the air at one spot, Grasmoor.
The four who were hit – all at different locations on Wednesday – were airlifted to hospital. Their injuries were not serious.
Eight walkers in a group of 13 were thrown to the ground at Crag Hill.
And a woman in her 30s received burns at Whiteless Pike when lightning struck her head and exited out of a foot. Mike Park, the rescue team leader, described the sequence of strikes as “rare and amazing”.
