Cameron opens up the books
HOSPITAL infection rates, civil service salaries and crucial public spending data will be published for the first time under a radical “open government” drive launched today by David Cameron.
The Prime Minister says publishing the information on the internet will enable the public to hold the Government to account and root out waste.
From Wednesday, hospitals will start publishing online data on MRSA and C-difficile infection rates, releasing 12 weeks of information initially before producing weekly statistics from July.
Names and pay of civil servants earning more than £150,000 a year will also be released.
Details of government contracts over £10,000 will be published on a single website from September and items of central government spending over £25,000 from November and local government spending over £500 from next January.
Mr Cameron told departments: “Greater transparency is at the heart of our shared commitment to enable the public to hold politicians and public bodies to account.”
