Coffee buzz is just a myth
COFFEE in the morning does not help you wake up.
Experts claim the “caffeine high” is just a reaction to our bodies’ craving.
Coffee lovers, who build up a tolerance to the effects of caffeine, are no more alert than those who do not drink it.
An experiment funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council deprived 379 people of coffee for 16 hours then gave them caffeine or a placebo.
Tests revealed that regular coffee drinkers still needed caffeine to make them as alert as those who did not usually drink coffee.
Peter Rogers of Bristol University, which led the study, said: “Caffeine can increase anxiety but tolerance means that for most consumers this effect is negligible.”
