Swimming pool used to train Olympic medallist Adam Peaty at risk of demolition
Queens Leisure centre in Derby, the swimming pool that trained Olympic icon Adam Peaty, is at risk of demolition following it's closure in May 2022.
A pool used to train Olympic icon Adam Peaty and other hopefuls over 90 years faces demolition.
It comes after breaststroke gold medallist and eight-time world champion Peaty, 28, echoed the Daily Express’s Save Our Public Pools campaign to safeguard access to under-threat swimming facilities.
The star said: “Behind a great future Olympic team is investment, so keeping pools open is important.
“Pool closures would definitely have a long-term impact and that wouldn’t just be for elite athletes and future GB swimmers but the whole community in terms of our collective physical and mental health.”
Queen’s Leisure Centre, Derby, was shut in May 2022 with the council saying it was no longer fit for purpose.
Strictly star Peaty trained there as a youngster and even visited the site ahead of its scheduled closure.
The central facility was still popular but was axed prior to the opening of the £42million Moorways Sports Village four miles away.

Furious Cllr Martin Repton said: “Without a centrally sited, easily accessible pool then where will we find another Adam Peaty?"
“Or where will kids and their parents from all backgrounds be able to simply enjoy having to swim?”
Nadine Peatfield, cabinet member in charge of the city centre, told Labour-run Derby City Council they were looking at regeneration.
She added: “While demolition of the site is a possible option, retaining use of the building or part of it will also be considered, in light of our
climate commitment.”
