BA and union locked in talks
BRITISH Airways and the trade union Unite began last-ditch talks last night to head off further industrial action, writes Marco Giannangeli.
The airline is embroiled in a row with cabin crew over conditions, pay and staffing levels which has already led to 22 days of strikes and losses of more than £150million.
Yesterday both sides began discussions through Acas, the conciliation service, at a secret location.
“This is a very damaging dispute for all concerned,” said Acas chief conciliator Peter Harwood.
“The proposals we have put forward must understandably remain confidential to enable the parties to reflect on them without the glare of publicity.”
Unite is preparing to hold another strike ballot which could disrupt flights over the peak summer holiday period.
