Vuvuzela trumpets could be banned from World Cup
Vuvuzela trumpets, like the one being blown by a young England fan here, could be banned from the World Cup.
Broadcasters, players and fans have all complained about the noise from the horns which has been likened to a herd of stampeding elephants.
South Africans say it is part of their footballing tradition and plays the part of a 12th man for the national side.
World Cup organising chief Danny Jordaan said: “We’ve asked for no vuvuzelas during national anthems or announcements but it’s difficult.”
France captain Patrice Evra has said the noise drowns out players’ calls.
