Top ten seaside resorts in Britain
FAMOUS for its tower and its “breath-taking” illuminations, Blackpool has been voted the nation’s all-time favourite seaside resort.
A poll of 4,000 members of the public found the north-west coastal town came out on top because of its “special” atmosphere.
Brighton came a close second with Whitby coming in third. The top five also included Bournemouth and Scarborough.
The survey by Which? Holiday also found more Britons were likely to visit a UK seaside town this year than last year as families prepare to cope with high inflation and rising tax.
Rochelle Turner, head of research for Which? Holiday, said: “Millions of Brits will be taking holidays at home this year, and it's certainly one way to ensure you don't fall victim to volcanic ash.
“While Blackpool may not be able to guarantee the weather, with its host of theatres, fairgrounds and every conceivable promenade entertainment, it’s easy to see why the granddaddy of seaside towns still manages to draw the crowds.”
