My heart patient husband should not be full of beans
A DOCTOR is demanding a probe into hospital food after her husband was served stodgy bridie and beans just hours after having a heart attack.
Dr Grace Campbell was horrified when nurses at Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride offered Robert Mair the dish less than 24 hours after he fell ill.
Robert, also a doctor, became unwell at his home in the Lanarkshire town and was admitted to hospital on May 24.

The 45-year-old was then rushed in for an emergency angioplasty to clear a blocked artery. The operation was a success and he was told he would be home within three days.
But during that time Robert was unable to escape hospital catering, which consists mostly of processed meals that are shipped from England. Last night mother-of-two Dr Campbell, 46, condemned the catering. She said: “There was a salad and soup option but it was no more than a couple of slices of cold meat and a lettuce leaf, and the soup was unrecognisable.
“I cannot praise the staff enough for their excellent care but I have real concerns about the food. As if in a Third World country, I brought meals to my husband twice a day. I’m pleased the food for the staff is prepared on site. But why must the ill, weak and vulnerable patients receive three-day-old offerings from England?”
A spokesman for NHS Lanarkshire said: “We urge any patients who have concerns regarding the food to raise this with ward staff.”
