Full list of UK’s 20 ‘worst towns’ as new vote opens for 2024
The annual call for votes on the country's most depressing town has opened with more than 100 options listed so far.
The voting has opened with Britons invited to name the most depressing town in the country. Satirical website I Live Here is inviting Brits to choose the most boring and banal towns for 2024's list.
To date more than 120 towns across Britain have been submitted for voting, ranging from Aberdeen to Margate and Weston-super-Mare.
Basildon, Grimsby, Preston and Padstow also feature on the list of options as the organisers urge those who want a town included in the vote to focus on those "throughout this septic isle" which give them an "almost-terminal case of ennui".
Last year's list ranges from Northampton, ranked in 50th place, to Luton, which was 2023's worst place to live in England.
I Live Here's countdown includes a claim that the Bedfordshire town "makes Slough comparable to the playboy tax exile haven of Monaco".
The top 20 of 2023, running down from 20 to 11, is
- Cheshunt
- Croydon
- Oxford
- Coventry
- Liverpool
- The London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea
- Birmingham
- Henley-on-Thames
- Reading
- High Wycombe.
In the top 10, in order, are:
- Bradford
- Bournemouth
- Swindon
- Andover
- Aldershot
- Aylesbury
- Slough
- Portsmouth
- Peterborough

A range of scathing satire describes the towns and cities featuring in the top 10. Bradford is described as the "land of dreams" if you dream of take aways and pound shops.
The Wiltshire town of Swindon is summed up as "a town "s***" from the a*** of Satan himself" and as a blot on the county's countryside.
