The capital of Northern Ireland has been named the most stressful place to live in the UK. Belfast is the least calm city in the UK according to new research by Kalms Herbal Remedies, which asked residents to assess their health, emotional wellbeing and quality of life.
Nearly two-thirds of residents surveyed reported feeling stressed or unable to cope. The cost-of-living crisis (64 per cent) and work (44 per cent) causes residents consistent concern.
The city sits on the River Lagan on the east coast of the country. It is the UK’s 10th largest urban area with a population of 293,298 in 2021.
Belfast has lots of things to do including visiting the 18th-century Hillsborough Castle, Titanic Belfast museum, the Dome, the botanical gardens, Ulster Museum and more.

Just outside the city is Black Mountain, the 19th-century Belfast Castle, Cave Hill Country Park, lots of golf courses and a number of beaches along the coast.
Belfast has an average house price of £228,147 according to Home.co.uk and £158,219 according to Land & Property Services.
Nearby are multiple Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, small towns and villages to explore. The city of Londonderry is just over an hour away and the Isle of Man is four hours away by ferry.

Also included in the least calm cities were Cardiff and Plymouth and Newcastle. The most stressed region was Northern Ireland.
The UK’s calmest city was Brighton, on the south coast of England. Residents were more likely to spend time in nature and seek help for their mental health.
Others on the list were Edinburgh, Bristol and Norwich. The calmest region was the east of England, followed by Scotland and the southeast of England.
