M25 Dartford Crossing LIVE: Traffic chaos as major UK bridge shut after 'police incident'
There are currently delays of 30 minutes along the busy commuter route.
The Dartford Crossing is currently closed due to a "police incident", sparking traffic and travel chaos on the M25 during rush hour.
Drivers are currentlfacing huge delays on the major UK bridge - which is also a hugely popular commuting route between London and the south east of England.
A spokesperson for National Highways said: "Traffic remains held on the A282 QEIIBridge southbound at Dartford Crossing due to a Kent Police led incident.
Lifeboats also called out to the Dartford Crossing incident
Thames RNLI said: "On the morning of Friday 17 May, Gravesend RNLI Lifeboats were tasked by HM Coastguard to an incident at 5:30am."
Road fully reopened
Essex Police has said that the bridge is now fully open to drivers.
The AA Traffic Map shows there is no longer queues on the road.
Delays on the Tube network
Unrelated to the incident at Dartford Crossing, there is currently no service between Chalfont & Latimer and Chesham on the Metropolitan Line due to a points failure at Chalfont & Latimer.
There are also severe delays on the District Line between Earl's Court and Wimbledon due to engineering works finishing late.
There are further delays on the Jubilee Line southbound due to a faulty train at Green Park.
The Northern Line is also suffering minor delays due to a shortage of trains.
Police currently on the scene
Essex Police have confirmed that they are currently on the scene of the incident.
They recieved a call at around 5.15am and have been on the bridge since.
The force said on x (formerly Twitter): "We appreciate your understanding and will update as soon as we're able to."
Hour-long delay despite road reopening
Traffic on the QEII bridge has been released as of 6.22am. However, there are still delays of up to 60 minutes for drivers in the area.
The road has queues for 5.5 miles to North Ockendon, according to the AA Traffic Map, with an average speed of 5mph.
What we know so far
Traffic was stopped at 5.30am today on the southbound carriageway of the QEII Bridge at Dartford Crossing.
National Highways said there was a police-led incident and that they were unable to provide a timescale for drivers.
